Q1:How doesToto comes to grandfather’s private zoo ?
Ans:-Grandfather bought Toto from a tonga-driver for five rupees. The monkey was kept tied to a feeding-trough, and Grandfather felt he looked out of place there. Being an animal lover, Grandfather decided to buy Toto and add him to his private zoo.
Q2: “ Toto was a pretty monkey.” In what sense is Toto pretty ?
Ans:-Toto had bright eyes sparkling with mischief, pearly white teeth ,quick and wicked fingers and a long tail, which served as a third hand. All these qualities make toto pretty.
Q3: Why does grandfather take Toto to Saharanpur and how ?
Ans:-Toto was a mischievous monkey . In Grandfather’s private zoo Toto kept disturbing all other animals. Grandfather thought that he could manage Toto properly. So, Grandfather took Toto to Saharanpur in a canvas bag.
Q 4: How does Toto take a bath ? Where has he learnt to do this ? How does Toto almost boil himself alive ?
Ans:- Toto cunningly tested the temperature of the water with his hand, then gradually stepped into the bath. He stepped first with one foot, then the other, until he was in the water up to his neck. Toto would rub himself all over with soap. He had learned all this from the narrator of the story.
One day, a large kitchen kettle had been left on the fire to boil for tea. Toto got into the kettle and enjoyed the warm water. But when the water became too hot, Toto jumped up and down. Just then, grandmother arrived and pulled him out half-boiled. Thus, Toto almost boiled himself alive.”
Q5: Why does the author say, “Toto was not the sort of pet we could keep for long”?
Ans:- The author says this because Toto was simply too destructive and expensive for the family to keep. He was constantly causing financial loss by tearing clothes and wallpaper, breaking valuable dishes, and wasting food. On top of that, his mischievous nature made life miserable for the other animals in the household, as he never let them live in peace. Realizing they could not afford the continuous damage and chaos Toto brought into their home, Grandfather decided it was best to sell him back to the tonga-driver.
